What does it take for the flawless rustic wedding in Winchester, Virginia? The venue has to be an idyllic and unique farmland setting with clean, fresh air, have a legacy of timeless beauty and fit your vision as the once-in-lifetime backdrop for family, friends and photos. Everywhere you look, you need spectacular, breathtaking views, lots of room, quaint and picturesque features and a farm family-friendly atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy the peace away from a hectic life…yet convenient enough for everyone to come on down and celebrate with you.

Everything has to come together to create a rustic wedding that’s picture-perfect. That includes a barn-burner of a location, embellishments that are cozy and inviting, homespun country touches to match your tastes and sensibilities, and delicious food that’s inspired by mouth-watering home-style cooking. Plus, you have to know about previous rustic weddings and be confident other couples before you loved their whole rustic shindig…and why they did.

Location, location, location

When planning a wedding, choosing the right venue can be one of the most important decisions you make. The venue is more than just a site; it sets the tone and provides the backdrop for one of the most memorable days of your life.

The setting has to fit both you and your guests like a comfortable pair of well-worn, broken-in boots. It’s not formal nor stuffy, but instead welcoming and homey. It’s appropriately rustic, yet comfortable and stylish, always clean, organized, well-equipped and neat as a pin. It’s down-home comfy and folksy, and definitely not overly hokey, cutesy or tacky.

There’s most likely an inviting farmhouse in which to get ready, rolling countryside for beautiful photos and videos, and of course, a humdinger of a barn big enough to handle the reception.

Getting there should be half the fun

No one likes to be driving for hours and hours through stop-and-go traffic to get to your venue. They want a relaxing drive through the countryside, near enough to cities from which many of your guests will be coming.

From the moment you and your guests drive onto the property, you should be stepping into an atmosphere of pure farm-style charm. The gorgeous land must provide a spectacular view for as far as the eye can see, yet the convenience Plus, there should be plenty of parking without a lot of hassles.

Style is personal

Don’t forget, you get to set the style and tone for your wedding. While the general assumption is that evening weddings tend to be more formal and daytime weddings are more casual, the theme and style of your wedding is totally up to you.

Most daytime brides will select a dress with a simpler silhouette and grooms might wear lighter-colored suits. While your guests will not be wearing ball gowns, it can still be an elegant and upscale affair if that’s what you envision. Alternatively, you can opt for sundresses and cowboy boots–it’s entirely your call! Just let guests know what to expect by the style and tone of your invitations and provide details on your wedding website.

Country touches…some DIY, some for the pros

Before you run out to the local craft store and buy supplies to make anything you’ve ever seen on Pinterest, take some time to prioritize what is most important to you and your spouse-to-be. Do you care most about food? Music? The dress? Once you’ve pinpointed your priorities, plan a budget, then tap into both your DIY skills and those where you need to hire professionals.

Sometimes the idea of taking on a DIY wedding bouquet sounds great; however, you might not want to be worried about doing the flowers the day of your wedding. Instead, you might want to think about something you can do weeks or even months in advance, like DIY rustic wedding favors.

Only you (and your budget) can decide where to splurge on expert help, and where DIY is best. Many experts recommend what to DIY, such as save-the-date cards and invitations. But instead hire professionals to plan, coordinate and help you stay organized, handle photography and videography, and deal with the catering and music.

Wonderful venue and owners
Our wedding was 3/30 and we could not have received better feedback from our guests about the venue. It is beautiful and was a great value compared to what we looked at in the area. Several guests said it was the most beautiful venue they had been to. One side of the barn looked out onto rolling hills and the other had ponies walking up to the fence guests could see. The bridal suite is stunning and was a great place for pictures. The owners have stocked the house with most anything you might need while getting ready. The venue is also available to you for set up and for your rehearsal Friday, then clean up on Sunday- this was a huge help! Paul and Mary are very responsive and were there at our wedding to make sure everything went smoothly. They were such great and thoughtful people to have help guide us through this process. Our wedding was perfect and Paul and Mary made that possible for us.
